JAMES ALFRED FRIESEN

I’ve been photographing architecture professionally since 2006, but I’ve been making art my whole life. I studied Art, Theatre and Set Design in getting my undergraduate degree, and afterwards focused more on photoshop & digital art. Working as a photoshop retoucher for a travel photography company, I became enthralled with architectural photography. I love working in a field that puts all my knowledge of digital photography & composition, as well as my strong sense of perfectionism to good use.  I use a Nikon D810 with Zeiss and Nikkor lenses, inlcuding a tilt-shift lens, for large photo images and extra large panoramic images.  My goal is to produce images that capture and emphasize beauty and artful design, balanced with striving to achieve the natural look of things that we see with our eyes, without looking artificial.  The result is high-quality high-resolution photos to meet every need.

I've photographed thousands of homes, installations and new developments, shooting for architects, developers, designers, stagers, and other contractors.  Past clients include Turner Construction, Thibodeau Architecture & Design, Tiny Living Ltd, Positive Space Staging & Design, Pixilink Solutions, Kenzi Design House, Janet Scagel Design, Zoom Creative, Bayside Cabinets, and digital work for VRX Studios.

Born in Victoria, BC, I currently reside near Vancouver, BC with my wife and two children, after briefly living in the US and Japan. When I’m not working on photographs of buildings and interiors or artwork, I’m often out taking landscape photographs.

To many, the art of photography is about seeing something old & familiar in a new way.  To me, commercial photography is about looking at something new and making it iconic.
