JAMES ALFRED FRIESEN

I’ve photographed architecture professionally since 2006, but I’ve been making art my entire life. For my undergraduate degree, I studied Art, Theatre & Set Design, and shortly thereafter discovered Photoshop & digital art. I fell in love with architectural photography while working as a Photoshop retoucher for a travel photography company. So I set out to learn the craft!

I love working in a field that makes full use of my knowledge of digital photography & artistic composition. Not to mention my strong perfectionistic bent. I use a Nikon D850 with Zeiss & Nikkor lenses, including a wide-angle tilt-shift lens, for large photo & extra-large panoramic images. My goal is to produce images that capture & emphasize beauty & artistic design, while aiming to achieve the natural look we see with our eyes. The result is high-quality, high-resolution photos to meet every need.

Born in Victoria, BC, I lived in the US & Japan briefly before returning home to Canada. I currently live in Metro Vancouver with my wife & three children. When not photographing buildings & interiors or working on other art, I’m often out taking landscape photographs.

To many, the art of photography is about seeing something old & familiar in a new way.  To me, commercial photography is about looking at something new and making it iconic.
